Welcome to the Windows Routing Information page
Windows is a difficult stability concept and probably should not be used. Windows routing is a bit harder to control. There are better, more reliable and cost effective, hardware routers available. It is difficult to justify this costly operating system in such a simple application.
Windows Routing does not have a routing protocol by default. It can use the RIP routing protocol with the application of the proper programs. For more information about the RIP protocol, click here.
Setting up a router in Windows is fairly easy, and can be completed in a few easy steps:
- Add the TCP/IP protocol to all of your NICs.
- Install the Windows routing service.
- Add some IP numbers to the NICs. Becareful not to add a gateway to any NIC at this time.
- Add the gateway to the NIC that will be your default.
- Test away!
